About
Welcome to Carrick-A-Rede Bar and Restaurant, a culinary gem nestled in the picturesque town of Ballintoy, Ballycastle. Located at 21 Main St, this establishment not only serves exquisite dishes but also provides breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, making it an ideal spot for both locals and travelers.
As a food reviewer for Foodjoyy, I find it delightful to share the experiences from patrons who have dined here. Many guests rave about the freshness and flavor of the seafood, which is a highlight of the menu. For example, Dr. Josef A. Swetz D.C., GTS described the pan-fried tiger prawns and a delightful cup of chowder as "soooo tasty," emphasizing the care and quality embedded in every dish.
In addition to the seafood, the diverse offerings include enticing options like the Indian 5 spiced mango curry, praised by many for its rich flavors and warmth, as highlighted by another satisfied couple. FILARETI ZIOGA stressed the meal's beautiful presentation and said that the welcoming service added to the overall enjoyment, making each visit memorable.
The dining experience is further enhanced by the stunning scenery visible from every table. Brett Cleveland enjoyed the best fish and chips he’s ever had while soaking in the sun, reiterating the magic of enjoying great food with a view. Don't overlook the delectable desserts that have also wowed guests—they are nothing short of delightful.
Even if you're just stopping by for drinks, the bar staff, including Colin, Ethan, and Mick, are exceptional. Patrons like Constance Cranford mentioned their expertise in local spirits, creating a relaxed atmosphere to unwind after a day of exploration.
Additionally, great service is a constant theme in feedback, with guests consistently noting the attentiveness and friendliness of the staff, making every visit feel special. Johnnie Stockton's excitement about the exceptional service is a testament to the heartwarming hospitality found at Carrick-A-Rede.
If you find yourself in the Ballintoy area, Carrick-A-Rede Bar and Restaurant is a destination well worth your time. From the vibrant dishes to the breathtaking views and warm atmosphere, it promises an unforgettable dining experience. Highly recommended for seafood lovers and those seeking an authentic taste of local cuisine!
“ Made a quick stop in for some delightful food here a couple weeks ago and loved every bite! I enjoyed a small cup of chowder and pan fried tiger prawns which were soooo tasty! My wife had the Indian 5 spiced mango curry which she loved as well! We will definitely be stopping in again when we are in the area next time! Highly recommend! The server was also quite lovely and I wish I would have gotten her name to say thank you on here! ”
“ We absolutely loved this restaurant! The seafood we ordered was fresh and flavorful, and the entire meal was beautifully prepared. Our server was incredibly welcoming, friendly, and attentive, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The views were stunning, adding to the overall atmosphere. We’ll definitely be coming back! ”
“ Best fish and chips I've ever had! Fantastic views and the food is wonderful. We sat outside to enjoy the sun but there is plenty of seating with a view inside as well. Chowder was delicious- and we tried 2 desserts which both didn't disappoint! Definitely would come back! ”
“ Only visited the bar, but Colin, Ethan and Mick are great people. They know their local spirits and are happy to educate. We only had the chips with sour cream and chili, which were great. Those around us were cleaning their plates so I assume the kitchen is good. Highly recommend.. ”
“ Service was fantastic. We were taken off guard how friendly the staff was. I wished we had taken pictures of the food but it was gone before I realized it. Beer was top notch and the window view was fantastic. Don’t pass this place up! ”
“ Excellent food, great service, even with a nice sea view and parking. Best food and restaurant during my trip in Northern Ireland, enough said. ”
“ We just spent a couple of days in Ballintoy and the Carrick-a-rede bar was one of the highlights. We were staying at another hotel in the town, but the food and service there were a real disappointment. We were feeling a bit annoyed, but made our way over to The Carrick-a-rede, hoping it would be better. It certainly was! We (and our dog) were made to feel exceedingly welcome by the attentive and affable barman, Niall. The bar was warm and cozy and we got a seat next to the roaring turf fire. We made friends with another couple in the bar and as you often do, found we knew people in common. So, an initially disappointing first day of the holiday turned out to be pretty good. We went in the next day for a meal and couldn't have been more pleased. My wife got the bangers and mash and I got the cod and chips - the food was excellent, and again, the service was efficient and friendly. (Both times we were in, our dog got a bowl of water). To top it off, it was far more reasonably priced than the "other place." Ballintoy is a beautiful place to visit, but make sure you top off your sight-seeing with a visit to the Carrick-a-rede bar - you won't be disappointed. ”
“ Stopped in while on a tour and this little restaurant was a great find. The food was really good and portions were just right. Prices were OK and felt fair for the quality. Staff was friendly and made us feel welcome. Glad we got to check out something a bit more local and off the typical tourist path. Would definitely go back. ”
